Although the therapeutic virtues of «medicinal» plants have been known since ancient times, only recently have we started using them again.
Since this rediscovery, the use of capsules, liquid extracts, loose herbs, herbal teas, decoctions and all kinds of derivatives of such plants now on sale in herbal shops and pharmacies has grown incredibly, bearing witness to the trust consumers have in natural products.
When writing “The One Day Diet” my father gave me the «herb diary» my grandfather had written 80 years earlier. It is a real tome of wisdom, a collection of all medicinal herbs that indicates when they should be picked and all kinds of information on their curative properties.
The detail with which it was written is extraordinary; old but perfectly written, without any smudges, it is an incredible document that bears witness to the great passion the members of my family have always had for nature and their commitment to diffusing the beneficial properties of these plants.
The best results from phytotherapeutic treatments are obtained during changes in the season, in spring and autumn, because the more clement weather means the body reacts well to treatment without excess.
Below I recommend some herbs you may need and some information on the medicinal plants I normally use at my centre. Obviously, they are only some of those nature offers us, but they are those my family has traditionally used and that I have personally experimented with to check their effect.
In addition, I wanted to offer some recipes designed to combat the most common malaises, illustrating first what herbs look like when purchased and ways to prepare them.
The ingredients can be found in any herbal shop, but care should be taken to always read the precautions listed. As I have said before, these recipes are the result of ancient wisdom. They have never disappointed me and I am sure they can benefit whoever uses them.
